Governor-General Quentin Bryce, Queen’s Representative, agrees Legalising Gay Marriage in Australia

Australia has been reignited by the Queen’s representative during the republic debate by being the primary serving Governor-General to call for an Australian Head of State publicly.

Governor-General Quentin Bryce will leave his position in March. He is one of the supporters of gay marriage in a landmark speech influencing larger care and respect for all Australians. Governor General Quentin Bryce

Ms Bryce said in the ABC Boyer Lecture in Sydney about her vision for a country: People to be free to love and marry whom they choose and where perhaps my friends, one day, one young girl or boy may even grow up to be our nation’s first Head of State.

Christine Milne, Greens leader congratulated Ms Bryce for her strapping advocacy of equality of marriage, which shows a republic and an ethic of care, a real leadership.

Ms Bryce’s replacement will be  soon to announce by Australia Prime Minister Tony Abbott who led the campaign in opposition to a republic in 1999.

Mr Abbott and the Opposition Leader Bill Shorten both refuse to give their remarks.

The Buckingham Palace spokesman said that the palace will not give its comment for this is a matter Ms Bryce’s  statement.

“In response to any questions about the future of the Monarchy in Australia, Buckingham Palace has always maintained that this is a matter for the people of Australia,” he added.

According to Australian Republican Movement chair Geoff Gallop, it was time to revive the discussion concerning an Australian head of state.

Professor Gallop said that the governor-general has given her service with merit as the Queen’s representative, Governor-General Quentin Bryce, nevertheless, her message was so powerful about the great nation that people all love if there’s a head of state to represent the Australian people.

“We need an unambiguous, independent national identity that reflects and celebrates our freedom, our unity, our values of the fair go and our place in the world.”
