Aussies Break World Record At The London Olympics | world records

Aussie Guinness World RecordsAustralians flocked in full force to break the world records for the most number of people on full team Olympic kit in London. There were hundreds of Aussies who joined the event to snatch the record from Switzerland. Fair enough, they successfully broke the Guinness world record on Wednesday before the 2012 Olympics gets kicking.

Garbed up on green and gold, Aussies based in London posed for ten minutes in accordance with the rule. The event took place at Clapham Common, outside of the Windmill Pub, where the participants came up with the huge “G DAY” formation. Although it took them almost an hour to prepare for the formation, they were able to stay put, and hold their places for ten minutes. Such a glorious moment, held late night in London, was aired at the morning Aussie show “Down Under.”

While Switzerland previously held the record with 537 participants, Australia topped with 935 people according to the declaration waged by Guinness World Records representative Jack Brockbank. The original plan was to draw a thousand of participants to join the glorious event. Some Aussies were not fortunate enough to take part in the record-breaking moment.

Geoff Huegill, the popular Australian swimmer, was among the almost 1,000 crowd that gathered to snatch the world record from the Swiss. According to him, the event has been his most memorable record-breaking experience on land, although he has broken a couple of world records in the pool. Huegill, unfortunately, missed to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics on swimming.

As much as breaking Guinness World Records, the occasion turned out as a celebration of the great Aussie lineage. The participants, in fact, partied all night celebrating to the tune of Australian music and entertainment. To share the fun back to the land down under, the event was aired on local Aussie TV. No wonder, everybody has got a share of Australia’s pride and glory.

Such a huge gathering of Australians in London, nonetheless, has been remarkable in welcoming Australian athletes for the 2012 London Olympics, too. Spectators were even stunned by overwhelming support of Australian expats toward the Aussie Olympic team. Along with the gold and green flashes, the participants declared to the whole wide world through their statement shirts that, “Aussies CAN!”

Aussie World Record was sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank in cooperation with the Australian Times. The company’s Chief Marketing and Online Officer, Andy Lark, claimed that the bank has been supportive of Australian athletes for several decades. Lark also asserted that the event has been the company’s gesture to gather multitudes of supporters rallying behind the Aussie team.

Of course, it is noteworthy that the crowd exploded with cheers when Jack Brockbank confirmed that the gold and green Aussies did break the record set by 537 Swiss participants in the past. The busy Guinness World Records representative is cut to witness another possible world record event in Macedonia for making the biggest baked beans pot. That shall call for another celebration once another Guinness World Records event has been set.
